We get asked all the time: What grade of hair extensions do you sell?
That’s a very good question but the truth is that the virgin human hair grading system is a scam! Yes, you read that right. Most people go by the grading system when selecting hair extensions, stating that 10A is of a higher quality than 8A. Well, that’s not true.
Let’s discuss where the hair grading system first evolved from.
Over the past decade, the hair extension industry has changed considerably. The hair grading system (5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A) was developed by manufacturing companies in China in an attempt to distinguish “how good the hair is”.
Just last year, 2018, 9A and 10A hair grades were the standard for high quality. However, in 2019 I have seen companies profitting from this false advertisment and branding their hair as 11A and 12A.
Do you see the trend here? It is the exact same hair they are selling this year, that they were selling the year before and the year before that. Every supplier is just trying to remain competitive and give the ilusion that they are selling the best grade of hair.
So the question remains: How do you know the best hair to purchase?
Unfortunately, the quality of extensions is not determined by a standardized grading system, and anyone can mark their horrible, tangling, non remy hair as 10A, but there are ways to determine whether or not the hair is good.
When shopping for virgin hair extensions, be on the look out for this factors:
< Weft – It should be double stitched to reduce shedding
< Weight – It should be around 95 to 100 grams. Most times bundles are cheaper because they weight less
< 100% Human Hair – We only carry only 100% human virgin raw hair and we believe this is preferred by most of our customers. If you are looking for cheap hair that isn’t going to last, colored or styles, then we recommend a synthetic blend.
< Remy or Non Remy – You want to choose remy hair which is basically cuticle aligned hair that are facing the same dirrection to avoid tangles.
< Single or Double Drawn: Most of all human hair sold in the market is single drawn hair. The cost to produce a double drawn bundle is much higher because of the shackling process of removing the shorter hairs which is much more expensive during the manufacturing process. Expect to pay more for a bundle of human hair that has long hairs all the way to the ends.
< Single Donor or Multiple – Single Donor hair is really only necessary for a few hair types, like Indian hair or perhaps a special gray hair. From our professional point of view, it is not really necessary to have all bundles from a single donor. Unless that is your specific choice to pay more for it. Some companies “claim” that single donor hair are better quality, but we don’t believe that is true.
< Color: Can you color the hair? The best quality virgin hair will lift all the way to a platinum 613 Blonde.
< Styling: Human Hair extensions generally should not have any issues with styling.
What kind of hair do we sell? We sell 100% Human Remy and Raw hair extensions. We do not sell 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A, or 11A hair? All that is marketing. Going by grades of hair extenstion means potentially falling for the marketing trends.
As a customer, purchase hair that you can maintain. Virgin Curly hair is high maintenance while Remy Straight and Loose Wave hair is easier for some. Do your research and read reviews.
